French company Magnestick teams-up with CA based ski resort Alpine Meadows.

Based in Chambery, France, Magnestick® offers the brand new technological gadget in ski chair lift basic safety.

A child in the ski lift chair wears a magnetic vest, the chair itself has a magnetised seatback.

The addition level of safety is provided when the child enters the ski lift chair, the vest becomes secured, being magnetised.

A Short Article about the Renowned Vans Authentic Trainers Company

Vans traces its beginnings in Boston because that city is where originator Paul Van Doren was born, in 1930. Paul’s first job was setup by his mother who, despairing over his absence of scholarly instincts, found him a position at the shoe manufacturing plant where she was working. This is where Paul found out about shoes.. Paul and the shoe industry got along very well and through hard work became Executive Vice President of Boston shoe firm Randy’s. Paul decided to go directly into the shoe business along with three partners who formed the Van Doren Rubber Company, setting-up the factory in California in 1966. Paul was a good businessman and immediately saw the difference between the profit margins of factory and shop, so he opened a retail outlet and, on opening day 16th March 1966, he sold twelve pairs of Vans deck shoes (known in the future as Authentic).

Vans footwear factory 1996

The 1970s witnessed a time period of financial growth for the business maily because of new designs being developed and introduced to the market including rubber mukluks (for the US Government) and wool lined canvas shoes.Skateboarders loved Vans, because they greatly regarded the longevity of the shoe and enjoyed the sticky sole. Vans were very popular in California throughout this period.

The Vans Era was released in 1975, although at the time it was known as the Vans #95. The Era featured a padded collar and a range of color combinations and quickly became the shoe of choice for a whole generation of skateboarders. The ubiquitous Vans Slip-on was introduced in 1979. It was in fact incredibly popular with BMX riders and skaters. This continuous introduction of very successful shoes delivered the enterprise much success and subsequently the company boasted close to 70 retail outlets in California by the end of the 1970s. This was the period when Vans went first national and then international, opening retail outlets and working with distributors..

Many changes came to the company during the decade of the 80s.. To compete with the larger and more well know competitors and brands Vans continued to introduce new products and additionally ventured into new market segments customers who demanded tough trainers. Such markets included moto-cross and surfing. Vans Slip-ons became incredibly popular, gaining sales all over the world.

During this period Paul Van Doren stepped-back from over-all day-to-day contribution.

The company itself became something of a victim of this success, which ultimately led to a cash-flow problem. The situation reached a climax when the company filed for bankruptcy in 1983. It took Vans three years to get back on its feet, though it did pay-off its creditors. The original founders sold the business to an investment firm: the business proceeded to be sold several times.

Vans came out of the 80s stronger, which led to success in the 1990s. Strategically things changed. The company moved manufacturing out of the USA, which unfortunately meant that the company’s manufacturing history in California came to an end as . Continuing to move forward the company began sponsoring events such as the ‘Inaugural Triple Crown’ series which ended-up changing its title to the ‘Vans Triple Crown’ series, along with the ‘Warped Tour’ music festival. Skate parks bearing the company’s name and branding were opened in 1998, in Orange County and in 2002 in Orlando, further entrenching the company in the skateboarder market. Naming rights are also important and Vans has, for example, the naming rights to Australia’s internationally famous Bowl-a-Rama location.

What is a Jacket?

What is a Jacket?

The following are three short explanations of the word jacket. I hope they are of interest. Jackets of course form the basis of a man’s wardrobe. Practically every brand offers a jacket range, for example the G Star Mens Jacket range. Jackets are ubiquitous and essential in every sense of the word.

We start with a Wikipedia quotation:

“A jacket is a type of sleeved hip- or waist-length garment for the upper body. For clothing older than the mid-nineteenth century, a distinction is often maintained with a coat, but in many instances the terms are now interchangeable. A jacket is generally shorter, ending just below the waist, and often lighter. Some jackets are fashionable, while others serve as protective clothing”.

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacket

The second is a dictionary definition:

Jacket [ˈdʒækɪt]

  1. (Clothing & Fashion) a short coat, esp one that is hip-length and has a front opening and sleeves
  2. something that resembles this or is designed to be worn around the upper part of the body a life jacket.

Source: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/jacket

We finally turn to answers.com for the third definition:

“A short coat usually extending to the hips.”

A Very Succinct Guide of Women’s Clothing Styles From the Beginning to the mid-Twentieth Century

There have been radical changes in design over the last one hundred years. Styles, the materials available and vastly lowered production costs have all made their impact. The output from a modern clothing brand such as G Star womens clothes could hardly be imagined in 1902.

The period around 1900 was a time when showing the legs was unacceptable.

The Hobble Skirt arrived in 1910. It was so tight and pinched that women literally had to hobble to walk in it.

A milestone occurred in 1913 when Mary Crosby invented a support for breasts. It was made from two handkerchiefs laced with ribbon. It was the world’s first bra.

1915 saw the first twist of a lipstick tube.

The length of womens’ knickers shortened during the 1920s, making their way steadily from below to above the knee.

and playing golf by bells and thistles

The 1920s witnessed a change in fashion from a feminine look in the direction of a somewhat boy-like designs around the middle of the decade. In 1924 a substitute for leather, vinyl, was released.

A more feminine and somewhat conservative look returned in the 1930s.

It was during the 1930s that Wallace Carothers invented nylon. This {brought new design ideas|enabled a whole range of new clothing ideas.
Nylon made its appearance in the mid-1930, making fashions more availablebringing new design ideas.

Skirts got shorter for the duration of the Second World War as, well, there was less material for making them: everything, including textiles was rationed.

The design of womens’ clothing continued during the second half of the 1940s. For example in 1946 the bikini was shown to the world for the first time. The hour glass figure also arrived with the Christian Dior New Look in 1947.

Meanwhile the bikini was invented in 1946. In 1947 the ‘New Look’ from Christian Dior was announced bringing long skirts and narrow waists – the hour glass figure had been born. The post-war 1940s years were a time of fashion invention.

A more womanly shape was in full swing in the 1950s rock and roll years, with longer fuller skirts being worn, perfect for doing the twist.

The 1960s were a mix of many styles but Mary Quant’s mini skirt is a particular icon.

An Overview of the Sweatshirt

It is necessary to go all the way back to Alabama in the mid 1920s to find the birth date and place of the sweatshirt. The sweatshirt was a bi-product of a maker of male and female under-garments – the Russell company, founded in 1902.

Benjamin had a son, Bertie, who started playing football at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Bertie complained to his father about the football shirts They were made from wool and caused itchiness when they became damp making them very uncomfortable for the players.

Bertie came-up with the idea of making football shirts from the same material the company used to make the underwear. Knowing well the garments created at the factory Bertie told his father that this would be a great way to make football shirts. Benjamin decided to give it a go and history was in the making.

The idea was a success not just with the Alabama team but with many other football clubs..

The firm increased production and moved into new markets marketing the new shirts to baseball teams and athletics organisations.

{The Russell company graduallybecame the established shirt company by forming Russell Athletic in 1932.|This success led to Russell to form the athletics association Russell Athletic in 1932 which established the Russell brand in the sport.

The sweatshirt stepped out of the sports world becoming an ubiquitous high-street clothing item with attention from major design labels such as G Star Sweatshirt.
